A VPS for nutra and health affiliate offers needs to do two jobs well: run a self-hosted click tracker such as Keitaro or Binom, and serve landing pages fast to the country you buy traffic in. For most affiliates that means a KVM server with 4 GB of memory or more for the tracker, a light web server for the pages, both close to the audience, on a network with a clean reputation. The server is the easy part. The campaigns that last are the ones that also respect the health-claim, review and ad rules, and this guide covers both.
Quick answers before the detail:
- Keitaro's official minimum is 4 GB of RAM, 2 CPUs and 20 GB of SSD on a clean KVM server; Binom asks for 4 GB, 2 cores and 50 GB of SSD or NVMe.
- For trackers up to roughly 100,000 clicks a day, a VPS Mini is enough. Busier setups move to a VDS.
- Put landing pages close to the buyers: Amsterdam for Western and Central Europe, Prishtina for the Balkans.
- In the EU, food supplement claims must come from the authorised list, and claims about the rate or amount of weight change are banned outright.
- Showing ad reviewers a different page from the one visitors see gets ad accounts closed for good.
What "nutra" means in affiliate marketing
In affiliate marketing, nutra (short for nutraceuticals) is the health and wellness vertical: food supplements, weight-management products, skin and beauty, joint health and similar sub-niches. Demand does not depend on the season, which is why many networks call it evergreen.
In Europe and the Balkans the common payout model is cash on delivery. A visitor leaves a name and phone number on the landing page, a call centre confirms the order, the parcel ships and the customer pays the courier. Affiliates are paid per approved order, and some networks only per paid parcel, so two numbers decide profit: the approval rate and the buyout rate. Both depend heavily on the quality of the lead, and lead quality starts with an honest page that loads fast.
Two servers, two jobs
A typical self-hosted setup has two parts, and it pays to keep them apart:
| Tracker server | Landing page server | |
|---|---|---|
| What it runs | Keitaro or Binom: click logging, redirects, postbacks, reports | Static HTML, CSS and images, often a small PHP or JavaScript form handler |
| What it needs | Memory and fast disk for the database, a clean OS install | Low latency to the visitor, compression, caching, HTTPS |
| What hurts it | Running other software on the same server, a control panel | Heavy pages, slow first byte, a host far from the audience |
| Typical plan | VPS Mini or a VDS | VPS Nano or Micro per region |
If you use a cloud tracker such as RedTrack or Voluum, you skip the first column but still need somewhere fast to host the pages. Keitaro can also serve landing pages from the tracker itself, which is fine for testing; once traffic grows, a separate page server per region keeps each one simple.
Sizing a server for Keitaro or Binom
Both trackers publish their own requirements, and they are stricter than the guides that copy them. Keitaro's official documentation asks for a clean KVM server without a control panel, at least 4 GB of RAM and 20 GB of SSD, and gives this sizing by daily clicks:
| Clicks per day | Keitaro recommends | RS Computers plan |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 100,000 | 4 GB RAM, 2 CPU | VPS Mini (4 vCPU, 4 GB, 80 GB NVMe) |
| 100,000 to 500,000 | 8 GB RAM, 4 CPU | VDS Small (4 vCPU, 8 GB, 240 GB NVMe) |
| 500,000 to 1 million | 16 GB RAM, 4 CPU | VDS Medium (8 vCPU, 16 GB, 480 GB NVMe) |
| 1 to 5 million | 32 GB RAM, 4 CPU | VDS Large (16 vCPU, 32 GB, 960 GB NVMe) |
Keitaro's documentation names CentOS Stream 9 or 10 as the supported systems and says other operating systems are not suitable. Our images include Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux, so message us before ordering if you want to follow Keitaro's list exactly. Run the installer from Keitaro's own instructions rather than an old blog post; several popular guides still show a script that the docs have replaced.
Binom's server page is simpler for us: Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04, at least 4 GB of RAM, 2 cores, 50 GB of free SSD or NVMe space, and KVM virtualization. Binom notes that single-thread speed matters most. A VPS Mini with Ubuntu chosen at the configure step meets every line; for heavy traffic, start at VDS Small.
Two habits keep a tracker healthy. Install it on a fresh server and run nothing else beside it, and keep off-site backups of its database, since your whole reporting history lives there. Our guide to append-only off-site backups fits this well.
A fast landing page server in ten minutes
Most nutra landing pages are a few hundred kilobytes of HTML, CSS and images. They do not need a control panel or a database; they need a web server that compresses, caches and answers quickly. Caddy does that with very little configuration and gets HTTPS certificates on its own. We ran these exact steps on a fresh Debian 13 server.
First, the firewall. Allow SSH before switching it on, so you do not lock yourself out:
# as root on a fresh Debian 13 or Ubuntu VPS
apt update
apt install -y caddy ufw
ufw allow 22/tcp
ufw allow 80/tcp
ufw allow 443
ufw enable
Expected: ufw status lists 22, 80 and 443 as ALLOW, for IPv4 and IPv6. Port 443 is opened for both TCP and UDP, so browsers can use HTTP/3.
Put your page files in one folder, for example /var/www/lander, with images and stylesheets in /var/www/lander/assets. Then point a domain's A and AAAA records to the server and replace the contents of /etc/caddy/Caddyfile with:
lp.example.com {
root * /var/www/lander
encode zstd gzip
file_server
header /assets/* Cache-Control "public, max-age=31536000, immutable"
header -Server
log {
output file /var/log/caddy/lander.log
}
}
Use your own domain instead of lp.example.com. encode compresses every response, the Cache-Control line lets browsers keep images and stylesheets for a year (rename the file when you change it), and header -Server stops the server from announcing its software. Check and apply it:
# as root
caddy validate --config /etc/caddy/Caddyfile
systemctl reload caddy
curl -sI -H 'Accept-Encoding: zstd, gzip' https://lp.example.com/ | grep -i content-encoding
The first command should end with Valid configuration and the last should print Content-Encoding: zstd. In our test, a 16 KB text-heavy page went over the wire in under 200 bytes; real pages with images shrink far less, but the HTML and CSS still get much smaller. For more than one domain, add another block like the first. Our comparison of Caddy, Nginx and Traefik goes further if you prefer Nginx.
Why location and speed show up in the numbers
Paid traffic is bought per click, and every visitor who leaves before the page appears is money spent for nothing. A study by Deloitte for Google, Milliseconds Make Millions, found that a 0.1 second faster mobile site went with 8.4% more retail conversions across 37 brands. Google's own Core Web Vitals set the bar for a good page at a Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds, as web.dev explains, and the first part of that time is the trip to the server.
Distance is the part you control. In our own measurements with ping.pe in October 2026, our Amsterdam server answered Frankfurt in 6.6 ms, London in 6.7 ms, Paris in 9.3 ms and Madrid in 27.3 ms. Our Prishtina server answered Vienna in 18.6 ms, Bucharest in 21.9 ms and Athens in 30.9 ms, and Skopje is about 3 ms away on our own network. Many cash-on-delivery offers target Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and the rest of South-East Europe, so a VPS in Prishtina keeps those pages close to the buyer, while a VPS in Amsterdam covers Western and Central Europe.
Bots, click quality and the crawlers you must let in
Not every click is a person. Imperva's 2025 Bad Bot Report, published by a security vendor, counted automated traffic at 51% of all web traffic in 2024. Trackers filter bots so that your reports and your ad spend reflect real people, and putting Cloudflare in front of the tracker domain, as Keitaro's documentation describes, adds protection against floods of junk requests.
Filtering has a hard limit, though. Ad platforms review landing pages with their own crawlers, and Google's circumventing systems policy treats showing reviewers different content from what visitors see as egregious: accounts are suspended on detection, without warning, and the advertiser may not return. Even an over-eager firewall rule or a bot challenge that blocks Google's reviewers can look like that. Keep the page reviewers see identical to the page buyers see, and do not block the platforms' review crawlers.
The rules that keep offers and ad accounts alive
Health is the most regulated corner of affiliate marketing, and most lost accounts and fines trace back to the page, not the server. A short map, with the primary sources:
Health claims in the EU
Food supplements count as food, so Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 applies. A health claim is allowed only if it appears in the EU Register of authorised claims and is used under its conditions. Article 12 bans three kinds of claim entirely, including any that refers to the rate or amount of weight change, and any that leans on recommendations from individual doctors. Claims that a supplement treats or cures a disease are not allowed for food at all.
Countdowns, "free" offers and reviews
The EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive has a blacklist of practices that are always unfair. It includes false claims that an offer is available only for a very limited time, calling something free when the buyer has to pay more than delivery, and, since the 2019 Omnibus Directive, fake consumer reviews or presenting reviews as genuine without checking them. Fines can reach at least 4% of annual turnover in the countries concerned.
United States
The FTC's Health Products Compliance Guidance expects competent and reliable scientific evidence, generally human clinical trials, behind any health benefit claim, and says testimonials do not replace it. Its rule on fake reviews and testimonials, in force since October 2024, allows penalties of up to $53,088 per violation. Affiliate links count as a material connection under the Endorsement Guides, so they need a clear disclosure next to the link. Trial offers that roll into a subscription must meet the ROSCA law: clear terms before payment, express consent and an easy way to cancel. And in December 2025 the FTC finalised an order against a weight-management telehealth company over misleading prices and fake reviews, a reminder that this vertical is watched.
Ad platforms
Google bans unapproved substances, including products that imply they work like prescription medicines, and its misrepresentation policy rules out improbable results and hidden costs. Health is also a sensitive category for personalised ads. Meta's health and wellness standards, rewritten in July 2026, require weight-management ads to target people aged 18 or older and forbid statements that attack someone's appearance or promise specific outcomes in a set time. TikTok's weight management policy sets the same 18+ rule and rejects claims that results come without diet or exercise, or come easily.
Prescription weight-management medicines are a separate world: the US FDA keeps a warning page about unapproved versions sold online, updated on 1 October 2026, and such ads need platform certification. Stay away from offers in that space unless the seller is licensed for it.
Consent for pixels
In the EU, tracking pixels need the same prior consent as cookies: the European Data Protection Board's Guidelines 2/2023 say so explicitly. Put a consent banner on landing pages that fire ad pixels for EU visitors, and remember that interest in a health topic can count as sensitive data under the GDPR.
Why your host's network reputation is your problem too
Spamhaus, whose lists decide whether email is delivered and which addresses browsers and filters distrust, says it can list whole IP ranges and even whole networks that keep hosting abuse. If your neighbours on a network run deceptive pages, your clean landing page can inherit the damage. That is why we enforce our acceptable use policy and act on abuse reports, as the EU Digital Services Act expects of every hosting provider. For honest affiliates, a policed network is a feature: it keeps the addresses you build campaigns on trusted.
A launch checklist
- Tracker on its own fresh KVM server, sized by daily clicks, with off-site database backups.
- Landing pages on a server near the buyers, with HTTPS, compression and long cache headers on assets.
- The same page for reviewers and for visitors, with the platforms' review crawlers allowed.
- Claims checked against the EU Register or the offer owner's evidence; no countdowns or "free" wording that is not true.
- Only real reviews, a visible affiliate disclosure and full price terms before the order form.
- Ads aimed only at people aged 18 or older, with a consent banner for pixels on EU traffic.
- Uptime monitoring on tracker and pages; our guide to Uptime Kuma and Grafana sets that up from a second location.
Frequently asked questions
What VPS do I need for Keitaro?
Keitaro's documentation asks for a clean KVM server with at least 4 GB of RAM, 2 CPUs and 20 GB of SSD for up to about 100,000 clicks a day, and more memory as traffic grows. A VPS Mini covers the entry level; VDS Small to VDS Large cover busier setups.
Can I run Binom on an RS Computers VPS?
Yes. Choose Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 at the configure step on a VPS Mini or larger. That meets Binom's published minimum of 4 GB of RAM, 2 cores and 50 GB of SSD or NVMe on KVM.
Should landing pages run on the same server as the tracker?
For testing, it is fine. For live campaigns, a separate small server per region keeps the tracker's database load away from page speed and lets each page sit close to its buyers.
Which location is best for cash-on-delivery offers in the Balkans?
A server in Prishtina keeps pages a few tens of milliseconds from the region: in our measurements, about 18.6 ms to Vienna and 21.9 ms to Bucharest, and about 3 ms to Skopje on our own network. For Western and Central Europe, Amsterdam is closer.
Can I put Cloudflare in front of my tracker and pages?
Yes. Keitaro's own documentation describes running the tracker domain through Cloudflare. Just make sure no security rule blocks the ad platforms' review crawlers.
Getting started
Pick a VPS or VDS for the tracker by daily clicks, and a small VPS for pages in the region you buy traffic in: Amsterdam for most of Europe, Prishtina for the Balkans. Every plan is a KVM virtual machine with NVMe storage, a dedicated IPv4 address, IPv6 and free weekly backups. If you are unsure which plan fits your traffic, or need a specific operating system for your tracker, message us on Telegram before you order.
