What you get with an RS Computers Windows VPS

A Windows VPS is a virtual machine in a data centre that runs Windows Server and that you use through Remote Desktop (RDP) from a PC, Mac, phone or tablet. At RS Computers it runs on KVM, so you get a complete Windows Server installation with its own dedicated IPv4 address plus IPv6, NVMe storage and the administrator account. You install MetaTrader, an accounting program, IIS or a game server yourself, the same way you would on a computer under your desk, and it keeps running when you close the Remote Desktop window.

Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025 are offered on VPS Mini, VDS Small, VDS Medium and VDS Large, and you pick the version at the configure step of the order. VPS Nano and VPS Micro are Linux only. Every plan includes unmetered traffic, free weekly backups you restore from the client area, and a 99% uptime SLA with service credits. The client area also has reboot, reinstall and a console. That console is your way back in if a firewall rule or a wrong setting ever shuts RDP out.

Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025: which version to choose

All three follow Microsoft's Fixed Lifecycle Policy. During mainstream support a version gets security updates and non-security fixes. During extended support it gets security updates only, still at no extra cost. When extended support ends, the updates stop, and a server facing the internet should not be left in that state. The dates below come from Microsoft's lifecycle pages.

Whichever version you choose, Microsoft's hardware requirements for Windows Server set the floor. Windows Server 2025 with the desktop needs at least 2 GB of memory and Microsoft recommends 4 GB; 2019 and 2022 need 2 GB; and 32 GB of disk is described as an absolute minimum. Those numbers cover Windows on its own, before your first program opens.

Which plan for which Windows job

The plan cards above list the exact vCPU, memory and disk of each plan. This is how we would size the jobs people most often bring to a Windows VPS.

A remote Windows desktop for one or two people

VPS Mini suits one person doing light work: a browser, email and one Windows-only tool. Two people working at the same time, each with a browser and an office program open, are more comfortable on VDS Small, because every session holds its own programs in memory.

MetaTrader and other trading terminals

MetaQuotes notes that Expert Advisors and copied signals need a constant connection to the trade server and an uninterrupted power supply, which a home PC can't always give. One or two terminals fit on VPS Mini. Terminals from several brokers side by side, or Strategy Tester optimisations that keep every vCPU busy, belong on VDS Small or VDS Medium. Accounting, ERP and other small business software

Many desktop accounting and ERP programs install a database next to the program itself. With the database and two users on one server, start at VDS Small; VDS Medium leaves room when the database grows or a second program moves in. Check the vendor's requirements for Windows Server before you order, since some list only Windows 10 and 11.

IIS, ASP.NET and .NET Framework sites

A site built on .NET Framework, such as an ASP.NET Web Forms application, needs Windows and IIS, and VPS Mini or VDS Small is a sensible start. Modern .NET is a different story: Microsoft's guide to choosing between .NET and .NET Framework says .NET apps run on Windows, Linux and macOS, so an ASP.NET Core app can live on a smaller Linux plan.

Game servers that only ship for Windows

Most popular game servers run natively on Linux, as our game server hosting guide shows, but a few are Windows only. The Space Engineers dedicated server is one: Keen Software House lists a Windows PC with 6 GB of RAM as the minimum and 10 GB as recommended. That rules out VPS Mini. VDS Small works for a small group, and VDS Medium meets the recommended figure with room left for Windows itself. vCPUs on every plan are shared with other servers on the host, so leave a game some headroom.

How many people can use RDP on a Windows VPS at once?

Two. Microsoft's documentation states that Remote Desktop supports two concurrent remote connections to Windows Server without Remote Desktop Services client access licences (RDS CALs). More than two administrative connections, or several staff each working in their own desktop, need the RD Session Host role and the matching RDS CALs. Plan around this from the start: you and a colleague fit on a standard Windows VPS, a whole office does not. If more people need the server, tell us on Telegram before you order.

Prishtina, Amsterdam or Dublin

RS Computers runs the same Windows plans at the same prices in Prishtina, Kosovo, Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Dublin, Ireland. VPS plans have a 1 Gb/s port and VDS plans a 10 Gb/s port. On a remote desktop, distance is what you feel. Microsoft's Azure Virtual Desktop guidance says round-trip latency up to 150 ms shouldn't affect work that doesn't involve rendering or video, 150 to 200 ms is fine for text processing, and above 200 ms the experience may suffer. Our own tests with ping.pe on 6 October 2026 measured our Amsterdam server at 6.7 ms from London and 6.6 ms from Frankfurt, and our Prishtina server at 18.6 ms from Vienna, far inside that range. So put an office desktop in the city closest to the people who connect. For an Expert Advisor the rule turns around: choose the city nearest your broker's trade server, because that is the delay your orders feel.

When a Linux VPS is the better and cheaper choice

Windows is the right tool when a program needs it. Plenty of jobs don't. WordPress and other PHP sites, ASP.NET Core apps, Docker containers, a VPN and most game servers run on Linux without the Windows memory floor described above. Linux is available on all six plans, including VPS Nano and VPS Micro, the two smallest and cheapest, which don't offer Windows at all. From order to your first RDP login

1. Choose a city and VPS Mini or a VDS plan in the cards above.
2. At the configure step, select Windows Server 2019, 2022 or 2025 as the operating system.
3. Pay. Deployment is automatic and usually done within minutes.
4. Connect with Remote Desktop to the server's IPv4 address, using the administrator details you receive.
